About Informal Science Hour

Informal Science Hour & Donuts is an informal discussion session held every Thursday at 1:00 p.m. The venue alternates between Muller CafeCon and the Rotunda dome every week. The current schedule, along with corresponding venues can be found here.

Format: Structured but informal discussion for the first 30 min led by the speaker (occasionally two speakers, 15 min each), followed by 30 min social/science chat over coffee and donuts* where attendees are free to chat with each other and/or the speaker. No slide/presentation. Only one-page printed handouts*. This is a purely in-person event, with the goal of having a lively and interactive discussion involving all attendees.

The current organizers of science coffee are
Ayan Acharyya (aacharyya@stsci.edu)
Logan Jones (lojones@stsci.edu)

If you're interested in leading a discussion: The topic can be as broad (preferably) as an unsolved question in your field, or as specific as an exciting plot that you made recently and would like to share. The important goal is to have an informal discussion involving the attendees, rather than a talk/presentation. Please sign up here if you would like to claim a slot.

*We provide (a limited amount of) coffee, donuts, and printed copies of the handout.

**This meeting is not to be confused with the Wednesday Science Coffee at STScI (which is reserved for the colloquium speaker) or the JHU Astrocoffee on Monday and Thursday mornings. However, we would highly encourage you to join those events too!
